North Star Faith Community
Q: What is the North Star Faith Community?
A: The North Star Faith Community is a Harriet inspired gathering space for faith based organizations and women of all faiths to come together and share in the joy of health, wellness, and community.
Q: Is GirlTREK a religious organization?
A: No. GirlTREK is not a religious organization. We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) health movement dedicated to inspiring one million Black women to walk toward healing and liberation. We practice radical welcome. Sisters of all faiths, beliefs, and spiritual practices are celebrated here. Everyone is invited to walk, pray, meditate, or reflect in the way that feels authentic to them.
Q: Who can join the North Star Faith Community?
A: All women of faith are welcome here, no matter your denomination, tradition, or background. You can join as an individual sister walker or as part of a faith based organization, church, or ministry. You do not need to be a member of a church to participate.
Q: Do I have to belong to a church to be part of the North Star Faith Community?
A: No. You do not have to belong to a church or any specific faith institution. This space is for anyone seeking community, joy, and wellness through a spiritual lens, whether that is in a sanctuary, a living room, or beneath the open sky.
Q: Do I have to be a Christian to join?
A: No. The North Star Faith Community is interfaith and inclusive. We honor wisdom from all faith traditions and welcome women who may not identify with a specific faith but value spiritual connection, reflection, and sisterhood.
Q: How do I become part of the North Star Faith Community?
A: It is easy. Let us know you are interested by completing the Faith Based Interest Form.
Q: What is a Faith Crew?
A: A Faith Crew is simple. You and one sister make a crew. It is a sisterhood walking together in faith and health. You can walk in person or virtually and invite others from your congregation or community to join. Faith Crews walk, talk, pray, and encourage one another. Some crews have co leaders and many commit to at least one walk each month.
Q: How do I start or join a Faith Crew?
A: You can start your own crew by grabbing a sister, committing to walk together, and registering your crew in the GirlTREK Underground App. You can also join an existing crew by searching in the app or connecting through monthly Faith Gatherings. Either way, you are part of a national movement of women walking toward health and liberation.
Q: How do I become a North Star Faith Crew Leader?
A: Complete a North Star Faith Crew Leader training session and the Faith Crew Leader quiz. Training is offered regularly and will give you the tools, support, and connection you need to lead your crew.
Q: Do I need permission from my church or faith community to become a Faith Crew Leader?
A: No. You do not need permission to start walking toward your healthiest self. You can begin with a willing heart and gather sisters to walk with you. If your faith community would like to learn more, the Faith Team is available to connect and share more about the North Star Community.
Q: Can my Faith Crew collaborate with other GirlTREK communities?
A: Yes. We encourage it. The North Star Faith Community is part of a larger network of GirlTREK Special Impact Teams that support women across different spaces including caregivers, food justice, justice-impacted communities, mental health, and the next generation. Together, we walk, talk, and solve problems.
Q: What are the main ways the North Star Faith Community connects?
A: We connect through North Star Huddles twice monthly, monthly Faith Gatherings, and the North Star Newsletter. We also host special events like Faith Treks, sister check ins, and seasonal challenges throughout the year.
Q: What is the 21 Day FaithTREK Challenge?
A: The 21 Day FaithTREK Challenge is a walking commitment where sisters walk 21 days within 30 days for their health and healing. Women who complete the challenge earn their Golden Laces, a powerful symbol of commitment and freedom, celebrated with their crew.
