Self-Care School 2025 | FAQS
Self-Care School is a walking classroom powered by GirlTREK
This is not self-help.
This is a training ground. The civil rights movement had Freedom Schools—we have Self-Care School.
This immersive, 11-week training program blends movement, history, and radical self-care to teach Black women how to heal themselves and organize their communities. Taught by co-founders of GirlTREK and award-winning podcast personalities Morgan Dixon and Vanessa Renae, Self-Care School explores 50 life-saving skills and results in an industry-leading certification.
Q1: How does it work?
Students around the world lace up their sneakers, grab their earbuds, and press play on a high-energy, interactive podcast, then walk for 30 minutes per day. That’s 15 minutes out - in any direction - and 15 minutes back! Research tells us that a 30-minute walk, just five times per week, will add 7 years to our lives - if it becomes a habit. That’s exciting. Let’s make it a habit.
As we walk, we learn together. Daily immersive walking lessons, transformative self-care assignments, global sisterhood support, and weekly Foremothers Achievement Badges. When you graduate, you earn a certificate of completion and an extra special badge.
Q2: When does it start? When does it end?
Whenever you are ready to get started! The initial cohort was hosted from April 7th to June 20th, 2025, but the class remains in session for anyone who wants to benefit from the valuable lessons that Self-Care School has to offer.
Here's how you can tap into the daily lessons and earn badges:
- Register for Self-Care School. (If you haven't already.)
- Bookmark this page: Self-Care School Classroom. You can also listen to all podcast episodes on Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, or Spotify.
- Lace up your sneakers for a power-packed, 30-minute walk and learn session.
- Claim your digital badge at the end of each week.
- Repeat the process above for 11 weeks to earn all of the badges!
Q3: How will I know that I am successful? What are the graduation requirements?
Success is defined as walking 5 days a week for 11 weeks.
Q4: Are there other ways to measure success over the eleven weeks? How can I track my progress?
Walk five days a week (rest the other two!), and you’ll earn digital victory badges—because winning is a habit and we want to live, period. We will send you an "exit ticket" at the end of each week so you can let us know that you did it.
Q5: How much does it cost?
Tuition is free, but there are costs: your time, focus, and sweat equity. You will also have to give up any mindsets or bad habits that make you sick. You are going to feel amazing at graduation!
Q6: Can I invite others to join me?
Yes! Please share the REGISTRATION link to invite your friends, family, co-workers, sorors, and church members to join you. Our new FIELD GUIDE will help you succeed in bringing new women to the MOVEment! The Field Guide is also available for purchase HERE.
Q7: I completed the first session of Self-Care School. Where can I purchase the badges and SCS t-shirt?
Congratulations! You are a wellness wonder! You can purchase physical patches HERE and snag your Self-Care School tee HERE. Be sure to tag us using #GirlTREK when you share your SCS style on social media.
Q8: What are GirlTREK's values?
With the fear spreading across our country - deep division - and the rolling back of the civil and human rights that our mothers bled for —we will stand tall together and call in healing protection and divine light. We have always practiced “R.A.D.I.C.A.L. Welcome” to anyone who wants to see Black women live and thrive. R.A.D.I.C.A.L. because we are Resilient. Audacious. Disciplined. We practice Integrity. Curiosity. Advocacy and Love. These values are brave, and we move when the world is silent. Listen to our footsteps—there’s an army rising. Our bullhorns are ready.
Q9. Is there a way to get involved with the organization beyond Self-Care School?
Absolutely! Please reach out to us at info@girltrek.org.
